White Logistics

Basic ideas and policies

"White Logistics” is a movement launched in March 2019 by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to improve the work environment of the logistics industry. The purpose of this movement is to:

  • Increase the productivity of truck transportation and enhance the efficiency of logistics operations
  • Create better workplaces where women and people aged 60 and older can also work in comfort

“White Logistics” can be said to be a work style reform movement in the logistics industry, and it is important for shippers to ensure compliance to contribute to the reform. In support of this movement, Resonac became one of the first companies in the chemical industry to make a declaration to voluntarily take actions for sustainable logistics in May 2019 and has since been acting in accordance with the declaration.

Addressing the 2024 Logistics Issue in Japan

With regulations capping overtime hours for truck drivers coming into force in April 2024, there are concerns about a shortage of transportation capacity. In June 2023, a chemicals working group was established in the Physical Internet Realization Council, comprising ministries and agencies related to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, chemical-related companies, and logistics companies in order to tackle the “2024 logistics issue.” Resonac is also participating in this chemicals working group. We have formulated a concrete action plan to realize sustainable logistics (stability, safety, carbon neutrality, and efficiency), and are carrying out initiatives, including the reform, standardization, and digitalization of logistics business practices.

Major activities

  1. 1. Compliance with the voluntary action plan
We will comply with the voluntary action plan set by the chemicals working group (including limiting loading/unloading waiting times to two hours, concluding appropriate transportation agreements and increasing the efficiency of logistics operations).
  2. 2. Meeting of employees in charge of logistics operations
We hold a meeting biannually for Resonac Group employees in charge of logistics operations to share the latest logistics trends and exchange opinions on measures to improve truck drivers’ working environment and increase the efficiency of logistics operations. Moreover, we are conducting working group activities on specific themes.
  3. 3. Dialogue with partner transportation companies (3PL) for the improvement of truck drivers’ working conditions
Each of our sites engages in dialogue with its major transportation partner to share awareness concerning legal compliance, improvements in truck drivers’ working conditions and transportation efficiency. If asked by any of the companies to cooperate with them for the rationalization of their transportation services or other purposes, we engage in good faith discussions with the company and also proactively make improvement proposals, such as establishing a set transportation route within the premises to prevent minor collisions, providing drivers with more safety tools for their work and scheduling cargo collection times and places in consideration of waiting times.
