Characteristics

Mechanism of TPNa Function

UV irradiation of the skin results in oxidative stress, which creates reactive oxygen species. This causes various skin disorders such as comedo formation and rough, dry skin. TPNa is easily converted to α-tocopherol after skin penetration and protects the skin from reactive oxygen species through its strong anti-oxidative properties. As a result, TPNa inhibits lipid peroxidation, inflammation, and DNA damage in the skin.

Mechanism of TPNa Function

Prevention of Inflammation

The anti-inflammatory properties of TPNa were compared with those of tocopherol acetate (TAc) and dipotassium glycyrrhizate (G2K), both of which are well-known anti-inflammatory agents. TPNa exhibited a superior inhibitory effect on the production of the inflammatory marker prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) compared with TAc and G2K at the same concentration.

Effects on Dark Circles Around the Eyes

Twenty-one Caucasian female subjects between 31 and 49 years old, each with dark circles around the eyes, applied a placebo cream and a cream containing 1% TPNa on each hemi-facial area twice a day for 4 weeks. The anti-dark circle effect was assessed by measuring the cutaneous color of each eye area using a spectrocolorimeter and image analysis.

 

 

In a clinical study, the L* parameter, an indicator of lightness, was improved in 82% of subjects after TPNa application.

Promotion of Ceramide Synthesis

Ceramide is a key substance involved in skin hydration. The amount of ceramide in the skin decreases due to aging or dry skin. TPNa significantly increased ceramide synthesis in a dose-dependent manner.

[Methods] Human keratinocytes were cultivated in a medium containing TPNa for 24 hours, and the ceramide levels were determined. (10 µM: 0.0005%, 50 µM: 0.0027%)
