Resonac Establishes New SiC Wafer Facility in Yamagata, Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony

Resonac Corporation (President: Hidehito Takahashi, hereinafter referred to as "Resonac") is pleased to announce that Resonac Hard Disk Corporation (President: Yasushi Makabe), which is a subsidiary of Resonac Corporation, has started to construct a new production building for silicon carbide (SiC) wafers (substrates and epitaxial) for power semiconductors at its Yamagata Plant in Higashine City, Yamagata Prefecture.  The groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 12.

This new facility is a part of Resonac's efforts to realize the supply assurance plan for semiconductor materials (SiC wafers), which are recognized as specific critical materials under the Economic Security Promotion Act* by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on June 16, 2023.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local dignitaries including Mayor Seigo Tsuchida of Higashine City and other related parties from Yamagata Prefecture.  Representing the Resonac Group, Makoto Takeda, Executive Officer, General Manager of the Device Solutions Business Unit of Resonac Corporation, among others, participated in the ceremony and prayed for safety during the construction period.  The completion of the building is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025.
