Introductory Guide to the New Resonac
Resolving Social Challenges through Co-creation
Technological advances have materially enriched people's lives, but they are also driving today's global environmental crises. Resolving this contradiction is a critical challenge for all future societies.
Yet, while it is impossible for a single company to resolve this dilemma, chemical manufacturers as the starting point of all industries can overcome this challenge by co-creating with various stakeholders, rather than focusing solely on their own business activities.
The new company name "Resonac" was created by combining the word "resonate" with the first initial of "chemistry." As the name suggests, Resonac strives to change society as a "co-creative chemical company."
R&D hubs for co-creation
The Stage for Co-creation brings together organizations sharing Resonac's strengths in computational science, material analysis, mass production technology and facility management, and chemical safety management and evaluation. Resonac also collaborates and co-creates with venture firms, universities, and other entities to promote long-term research and development themes.
The Packaging Solution Center introduces comparable equipment used by semiconductor manufacturers to facilitate the evaluation of materials in the entire semiconductor package manufacturing process. Resonac is committed to addressing the various challenges involving next-generation semiconductor manufacturing while interacting with other companies and universities.
Developing next-generation semiconductors through cross-industry collaboration
Resonac established the JOINT2 consortium comprised of 12 semiconductor device, material, and substrate manufacturers* to promote technological development by sharing technologies and information with the aim of realizing high-density packaging for next-generation semiconductors. JOINT2 combines the participating companies' materials and technologies to provide optimal one-stop solutions for customers.

Three Keys for Resolving Social Challenges
1. Developing co-creative human resources to cultivate an organizational culture
Innovation requires human resources actively connecting with people, both internally and externally, to bring about creative changes while providing solutions to challenges through co-creation. Resonac has established four types of common values for people with different backgrounds to share their views and promote mutual understanding, and takes various steps to nurture a co-creative environment based on these shared values.
"AHA!" – a place to find and share inspirations
Teams are formed within the Resonac Group to tackle challenges and achieve goals. They present and discuss their experiences gained from Resonac's values, with the aim of generating co-creation through their inspirations.
The "Moyamoya Meeting" – an opportunity to consider Resonac's values
Resonac's CEO and chief human resource officer (CHRO) visit each workplace to hold "moyamoya" meetings where young employees express their frustrations or uncertainties ("moyamoya" in Japanese). The participants discuss how to overcome these challenges through Resonac's values and co-creation, thereby cultivating an organizational culture.
2. Creating products required of the times
Resolving social challenges requires the capability to develop products that respond to the needs of the times, just as the cultivation of co-creative human resources facilitates product development with co-creation promoted across different business sectors. Resonac strives to create high-performance products able to meet future demands by generating technological synergies between former Showa Denko's "Chemistry to Synthesize" and former Hitachi Chemical's "Chemistry to Formulate," namely, by combining Showa Denko's superior raw materials technologies with Hitachi Chemical's large market share in finished products for semiconductor manufacturers.

3. Becoming a profitable company
Essential to resolving social challenges is innovation, and to invest in innovation a company must deliver strong sales and revenue performances. Resonac positions semiconductor and electronic materials as a core growth business driving future growth, with its strategy aimed at boosting the sales composition ratio of these materials.
In creating products required of the times through various co-creation activities, Resonac has transitioned from a traditional general chemical manufacturer focused on petrochemicals to a "functional chemical manufacturer" pursuing high value-added products with superior properties and functions.
